Who We Are

Softies was created with one simple mission: to make life feel softer.

Our story begins in 2005 in Minnesota, where founder Dennis Murphy—after 40 years in women’s apparel sales and manufacturing—set out to design something truly different. Working alongside his longtime designer, Lily, Dennis developed a fabric that redefined comfort: exceptionally soft, temperature-regulating, breathable, and designed to stay luxuriously cozy for the life of the garment.

Soon after, Softies became deeply personal.

In 2006, Dennis’s wife Peggy was diagnosed with leukemia. As she began treatments and faced long, exhausting nights, Dennis realized this fabric wasn’t just innovative—it was comforting. It wrapped Peggy in warmth, gentleness, and care when she needed it most. Softies was born from that moment: not just as sleepwear, but as a way to bring love and comfort into everyday life.

By 2008, Softies was still a true family operation. Dennis, Peggy, and their son Tim ran the business from their home—packing orders in the garage, shipping from the driveway, and watching the weather closely. Customers quickly fell in love with the softness and asked for more, inspiring the expansion into Ultra-Soft Loungewear and Luxury Robes—pieces made to carry comfort beyond the bedroom.

In 2011, the family moved into their first warehouse, and in 2012, Tim stepped into the leadership role, continuing the legacy his parents built—one grounded in care, quality, and family.

Today, Softies is proud to bring unparalleled softness to customers around the world. What began as a small Minnesota family business is now a beloved brand recognized by hundreds of media outlets, including being named Oprah’s Favorite Things for nine consecutive years.

But awards aside, Softies has always been about something deeper.
